Earlier this week, the Career and Technical Education (CTE) Foundation named Nicholas T. Pinchuk, chairman and CEO of Snap-on Inc (a Silver Sponsor of the EcoCAR competition), the National Business Leader of the Year. Pinchuk will be honored at CTE’s National Leadership Awards Lunch on March 8.

Snap-on’s EcoCAR involvement was integral to Pinchuk being named National Business Leader of the Year, because the CTE stresses building partnerships with education-based institutions. Sponsoring the three-year automotive engineering competition certainly qualifies Snap-on as a strong supporter of technical education.

In addition to EcoCAR, Snap-on also held a regional partnership summit last May entitled “Innovation and Workforce Development to Meet Changing Markets and Technology.”

Please join us in congratulating Nick Pinchuk and the entire Snap-on team!

In late February, Snap-on Tools representatives traveled from headquarters in Kenosha, Wisconsin to the University of Wisconsin for a personal shop tour. The Snap-on reps were excited to be on campus and eagerly looked under the hood of the EcoCAR to learn about the team’s design.

“Snap-on is delighted to be working with the EcoCar Challenge this year,” said Snap-on Innovation Works representative Dan Ramirez. “We deeply value the opportunity to support and work with the bright minds that will be shaping the cars of the future in what has been called one of the most exciting times for the automotive industry.”

Year Two of the EcoCAR competition focuses on vehicle integration, so the Wisconsin team is extremely thankful for the Snap-on tool set they received earlier in the academic year. It has been put to great use in the team’s Green Garage!

OSU EcoCAR team with Snap-On’s local sales representatives and chief innovation officer Ben Brenton

As part of the EcoCAR program, each individual team has been fortunate enough to received state-of-the-art, donated equipment from sponsors, including  Snap-On Tools, to assist with bringing their clean vehicle designs to life. While all of the teams were given the same donations from EcoCAR sponsors, every once in a while a student team is lucky enough to get the opportunity to thank them in person.

That’s exactly what happened for the Ohio State University EcoCAR team. Snap-On Tools recently stopped by their garage to check out how the tools they generously donated are being put to use. Local sales representatives and chief innovation officer Ben Brenton took a tour of the garage, checked out the team’s work on their car so far, and took the time to talk to each OSU EcoCAR participant about their involvement with the competition.

October 15, 2009 was a cold and rainy day in Atlanta, GA. A very depressing day for most, but it was a day the Georgia Tech EcoCAR team would remember for years to come! The team had been waiting for this day since it was announced they would be competing in the EcoCAR Challenge. The day would changes their lives as they knew it. It was the day the team received its 2009 GM-donated vehicle!
